I'm impressed by their metal selection and have been able to find records that I couldn't find elsewhere in town at this store. Also, for the most part, their prices are either average or lower compared to other places. Organization of the store is a little bit scattered, but it's still easy enough to find everything. The owner seems pretty friendly and helpful. Overall good environment and record shop, pretty underrated place to go. They also have cool band stickers for cheap. I would definitely come back if I were in the area.
Awesome selection, a lot of albums you just don't see at other area stores. If you are into less than mainstream music, they will have more than other stores for sure. And they have a killer t-shirt selection. Prices are also better than others, which means they cycle through faster and therefore have fresh selection every time I visit. Location isn't great for a suburban, parking isn't a breeze. And the employees, well they aren't friendly or not-friendly. Just quiet and to themselves. Which is fine I guess. I don't need a friend. Just my records.
I was positive I have reviewed this Record Store! How have I not? They have everything. This is my absolute favorite store in Portland period and has been for 25 years. Three generations of my family continue to love this store, its employees, and incredible selection. Thank you for all the years of awesome music and wears and here is to a bazillion more.
Cool downtown record store. Great t-shirt selection. Great mix from the most extreme punk metal to underground hip-hop, from eclectic jazz to country. The store can get crowded. Street parking. The employees never talk much. Fun place to browse. Slightly pricy. New and used vinyls.
I have been coming to this music store since I was a little tween in the 80's! Traveled a lot for vacations growing up in Wyoming and I was always on the hunt for music stores across the United States.
My family would come to Portland often to visit relatives and my cousin and I would ride the max downtown just so I could see what 2nd Ave aka "the tape store" had! Has always been a must go to place to get music, tees, patches and to just be!
So happy that i live closer and that it lives on \m/ it is only one of 2 stores that I used to travel to back in the day that live on in the glory of all that is music! Keeping it real is much appreciated!
I don't know how many times I've walked by the place looking for records. One fellow that I met there had been working there since 1985. It must be a good place to work it's definitely a good place to find any album that you want. Also the first time I went in the man was at work, working
Might be the best t-shirt record store. Their used vinyl has become pretty sparse. Nice people run the store. All genres musically. Last remaining downtown store besides EM, so worth a stop if you’re in the area…
This is by far the best record store I have been to. They have everything, whatever your music taste is. I was very impressed by the garage rock, surf rock, 60's section, each their own and huge selection. The metal section, wow, they had stuff that can be hard to find anywhere else. And punk section, the best. Bring money. I ended up buying 13th floor elevators, Pentagram, Sepultura, Mayhem, Zounds, Crass, and Django. I'm telling you, no matter what your music taste is, they have. Great selection in shirts as well, I got a Samhain and a Dead moon shirt. I can't wait to visit again. Staff was very helpful. It's worth visiting Portland for.
